Tony Parisi is an entrepreneur and career CTO/software architect. He has developed international standards and protocols, created noteworthy software products, and started and sold technology companies. Tony’s passion for innovating is exceeded only by his desire to build great products.

Tony is the co-creator of the VRML and X3D ISO standards for networked 3D graphics, and continues to innovate in 3D technology. Tony is the co-chair of the San Francisco WebGL Meetup, a founder of the Rest3D working group, and a member of the Khronos COLLADA working group creating glTF, the new file format standard for 3D web and mobile applications. Tony is also the author of O’Reilly Media’s first authoritative book on WebGL, WebGL Up and Running (2012), and the upcoming Programming 3D Applications in HTML5 and WebGL (O’Reilly 2013).

Tony is currently a partner in a stealth web media startup and has a consulting practice developing social games, game platforms and web applications for San Francisco Bay Area clients.

WebGL creates new possibilities for web graphics. Combined with the animation capabilities of HTML5, WebGL's hardware-accelerated 3D rendering enables the creation of high-performance, visually stunning content for advertising, entertainment, e-commerce, social media, and more.

This session covers the basics required to develop 3D web graphics using WebGL, including rendering, scene graphs, animation, interactivity, behaviors, and integrating 3D onto the page. The session will explore open source libraries and frameworks such as Three.js and Tween.js, 3D content creation tools, the production pipeline, and deployment issues. Several working examples will be presented. Attendees should come away from this session with the knowledge they need to get started building web graphics in WebGL today.

This hands-on course covers developing 3D applications in HTML5 and WebGL, with topics including rendering, animation, CSS3, the Canvas 2D API, 3D libraries and frameworks, multi-threaded programming with web workers, and 2D and 3D tools pipelines. The instructor will present several working in examples using Three.js, Tween.js and other JavaScript frameworks, with an emphasis on practical deployment and best practices.
